Summer 1950: special children's matinees and children's club screenings are given in 1,735 cinemas (38 per cent of screens), with an average weekly attendance of 1,016,000 children. Social Survey (1949) found that 75 per cent of children attending children's cinema clubs also visited the cinema at other times. Source: table adapted from The Cinema and the Public (1946) and the Report of the Departmental Committee on Children and the Cinema (the Wheare Committee) Cmnd 7945 (1950)—the latter using data commissioned from the Social Survey—quoted in PEP: The British Film Industry (London, May 1952)
